About

Dr. Stacey Barelos is a sound artist, composer, performer, and educator whose work has reached audiences across five continents.

As a performer, she specializes in 20th- and 21st-century music, with a focus on living composers. She co-founded Ludus Duo with Italian pianist Arianna Granieri to explore adventurous repertoire for multiple keyboards and toy instruments. In 2025, the duo will share their recent work at various venues in Athens, Greece. In 2023, she released her third solo album, Toy, Toy, Toy, featuring solo and collaborative works for toy piano. She regularly performs and leads workshops locally, regionally, and internationally—most recently at the Ex Nihilo Festival in Guanajuato, Mexico, and the University of Nebraska–Kearney New Music Festival.

As a composer, Dr. Barelos’s works appear on the Albany, Centaur, and Blue Griffin labels. In 2024, her wind ensemble piece Teleidoscope premiered in New Paltz, NY. She received a 2023 Bemis Community Arts Grant to collaborate with Lincoln-based inventor Jay Kreimer on a new recording to be released in 2025, and a 2024 Fortuna Grant to create site-specific works using the urban soundscape of Mexico City.

In education, she created Soundry, an experimental music program that invites people of all ages to explore and create with sound. A certified Deep Listening facilitator since 2021, she leads workshops and residencies across the U.S. Her Creativity Cards, designed to foster imaginative thinking in young musicians, are available in editions for both piano and strings.

Her multidisciplinary work was recently featured on Nebraska Public Media’s What If, a statewide program celebrating innovation and creativity.
