Omaha native Stacey Barelos is a sound artist who actively performs, creates and teaches throughout the Omaha community and surrounding area.

Her works have been performed across the U.S. and on five continents and her recent toy piano piece Starfish was featured on toy piano festivals in Como, Italy and Seoul, South Korea.  Stacey is also sought after as a leading music interpreter of experimental music having premiered dozens of works around the world. Her third album featuring recent music for the toy piano will be released in 2022.

Dr. Barelos is a frequent collaborator with sound artist Jay Kreimer recently creating, “Joan Gets Covid” a video and sound work commissioned by the Omaha Generator Festival.  Stacey performs in the Ludus Duo with Italian pianist Arianna Granieri and have premiered works for piano, toy piano, and percussion instruments.  In June of this year, Dr. Barelos will be collaborating with fiber artist Cassia Kite, the developer of Soundstitching, “an interdisciplinary, multimedia project that transforms color from a hand-stitched image into a musical composition”. They will premiere new works at the Willa Cather Spring Conference inspired by the Willa Cather Childhood Home in Red Cloud, NE.  

As an educator, Dr. Barelos developed Soundry, an experimental music program encouraging all people young and old to explore and create with sound.  Later this year, Stacey will be releasing her first educational product “Creativity Cards”, flashcards aimed at fostering creativity in young piano students. 

Currently, Stacey teaches composition, theory and piano at the Omaha Conservatory, theory courses at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and is the Education Director for the Omaha Under the Radar Festival.  For more information, see her website, www.staceybarelos.com.
